Container line HMM is prioritising the delivery of Covid-related medical equipment to India with a nominal freight charge.

As India continues to battle a deadly Covid-19 crisis HMM said it would charge $1 for every container of medical supplies to the country with vessel space and equipment also being assigned top priority.

Medical equipment to fight Covid include medical oxygen supplies such as medical grade oxygen, oxygen tank, oxygen bottles, oxygen concentrators, steel pipes for manufacturing oxygen cylinders and associated equipment.

An HMM official said, “Even though we are experiencing the shortage of both vessel space and containers worldwide, humanitarian activities should come first. We would like to carry out our social responsibilities with our all-round expertise and experience, while at the same time serving the world better than what we used to do.”

Container line ZIM previously announced it would ship oxygen to India for a token sum of $1 per container.
