Milaha launching first ever Qatar - Iraq container feeder service

Milaha is extending its Qatar – Kuwait service launched last year to also cover Iraq and it will call Hamad Port (Qatar) -Umm Qasr (Iraq)-Shuwaikh (Kuwait) – Hamad Port. A 1,015 teu vessel, with 110 reefer plugs will be deployed on the service which will have a transit time of two days between Qatar and Iraq.

The first vessel will depart Hamad Port on 7 May and arrive in Umm Qasr Port on 9 May.

Milaha’s president and ceo Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai said: “There has been excellent demand on the Qatar-Kuwait service that we launched last year, and we have been looking at ways to further expand that service to give our Iraqi clients and partners more convenience through greater port coverage and reduced transit times.

“This new service will contribute to the reconstruction efforts in Iraq, and will also help boost the growing trade and economic relations between Qatar and Iraq.”

After facing with sanctions from countries neighbouring Qatar last year Milaha has been rapidly building up its service network calls and currently calls two ports in Oman (Sohar and Salalah), three ports in India (Nhava Sheva, Mundra, and Kandla), one port in Kuwait (Shuwaikh), one port in Pakistan (Karachi), one port in Sri Lanka (Colombo), and one port in Bangladesh (Chittagong).
