Nippon Express launches containers for semiconductor equipment
Nippon Express has introduced a series of new containers to handle semiconductor manufacturing equipment and other precision technologies on intra-Asia trades.
Designed to transport precision equipment which needs strict temperature and humidity controls in transit, the six temperature-controlled containers will initially be deployed on Ro-Ro trades between China, Japan and South Korea.
Nippon Express told Seatrade Maritime News that such containers have been deployed in Japan before, but this will be the first time they are used in China.
The spokesperson added that Nippon Express hopes to attract more semiconductor manufacturing equipment to sea routes rather than the more common air freight. Ro-Ro are advantageous in terms of cost and lead time, they added.
To accommodate the increasingly large equipment, the wide and tall containers will have a 20 ton lifting load, four levels of lashing rails inside and external measurements of W 2990 mm x L 9470 mm x H 3250 mm. The boxes will hold the internal temperature between 21°C and 25°C and keep humidity below 60%.
“The Nippon Express Group will continue expanding and developing its services globally to meet the increasingly sophisticated and diverse logistics needs of the semiconductor industry,” said the company.
