The 9,000 teu ONE Orpheus suffered a steering failure as result of rudder breakdown which led to it colliding with the El-Mansy floating bridge in the Suez Canal.

According to the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) the ONE containership was on a voyage from Singapore to the Netherlands and transiting the waterway as part of a Northbound convoy when the incident happened.

The six vessels in the convoy behind the containership were initially forced to drop anchor before being rerouted to from the New Suez Canal to the Suez Canal. Southbound traffic was unaffected.

The SCA deployed four tugboats to tow the stricken ONE Orpheus to safety. According to Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of SCA the ONE vessel’s rudder has since been repaired and the vessel has resumed its transit of the canal.
