Ocean Network Express (ONE) is implementing a low sulphur fuel surcharge (LSF) for the new South Korean Emission Control Areas (ECA).

As of 1 September a maximum 0.1% sulphur content for fuel applies for vessels berthed or at anchorage in the ports of Busan, Incheon, Yeosu-Gwangyang, Ulsan and Pyeongtaek-Dangjin.

“These measures result in increased operational costs,” ONE said in a customer advisory announcing a LSF of $3 per teu for all Korean import and export cargoes from 1 November.

“The LSF quantum has been derived via a logical & equitable calculation mechanism and any future adjustments will made on the same basis. ONE continues to explore all avenues available to mitigate fuel consumption and fuel associated costs for the benefit of the global environment and the supply chain costs of our valued customers,” the container line said.
