OOCL has launched a service that connect China to the US East Coast via rail to Europe and then onwards by ship to the US.

In what the company described as a first of its kind service by a shipping line OOCL has joined with OOCL Logistics combining rail and sea to US East Coast ports.

Boxes move by rail on the “Chang-An” China-Europe block train service from Xian to Kaliningrad, Russia, and shipped by feeder vessel to Bremerhaven. From Bremerhaven containers onwards by ocean services of OCCL to US East Coast such New York, Savannah, and Charleston.

“The intention is to provide reliable and timely shipment by seizing the opportunity to avoid the current high levels of traffic seen on routes to the US West Coast and through the Panama Canal,” OOCL said.

“This new block train product is also a clear sign of the commitment of OOCL Group to their customers, showing their dedication to meeting customers’ needs, as well as the ability to adapt rapidly in this unprecedented and fast-moving environment,” it added.
