RCL first international container line to call Zamboanga, Philippines

Thai-listed Regional Container Lines (RCL) is set to become the first international container line to serve the Philippines port of Zamboanga.

RCL is expanding its Philippines coverage with a new service RSP6 connecting Zamboanga in the Southern Philippines with Singapore. The new service will call a rotation of Cebu - Cagayan - Zamboanga - Bintulu – Singapore.

The container line said The Philippine Government, through the Department of Trade and Industry, the Philippine Port Authority, the Bureau of Customs and all major stakeholders in Zamboanga supported its initiative to be the first international carrier to call in Zamboanga.

While it said The Zamboanga Export and Import confederation and the Canned Sardines Association of the Philippines lauded breakthrough after many years of calling for a direct international service.

The first call at Zamboagna is set for 11 November by the RCL vessel Danu Bhum.

RCL said it was confident the service would open up new market providing business opportunity for Zamboanga. A company representatives said, “We aim to serve the needs of both SOC and COC customers with this service and the Singapore connectivity.”

The shipping line is represented in Zamboanga by its exclusive agent Eagle Express.
