The deal with CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has been done in Chinese RMB rather than US dollars, the usual currency for settling international shipbuilding contracts.

It is the third batch of large-size containership orders bagged by Hudong-Zhonghua this year for a total of 15 vessels.

Built to a design Independently developed by Hudong-Zhonghua, the vessels will have a length of 336 metres, a width of 51 metres and a depth of 30.2 metres, which are due for delivery between 2026 and 2028.

Previously Seaspan ordered six 15,500 teu large container ships at Hudong-Zhonghua in 2021, following by ten 7,000 teu boxships and six 10,800 ceu PCTCs.

“The new order inked this time will further strengthen the cooperation between the two parties and renew a new chapter of win-win cooperation,” said CSSC.

With the addition of the new order, Hudong-Zhonghua has bagged over $10 billion newbuilding contracts this year.
