Shanghai box throughput up 11.4% in January

Shanghai: Shanghai, the world's busiest container port, made a strong start this year with box throughput nearing 3m teu in January.

Statistics from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co showed the Chinese port registering 2.92m teu of container throughput last month, an increase of 11.4% compared to 2.62m teu in January 2012.

Shanghai retained its crown as the world's number one container port with a total throughput of 32.53m teu in 2012.
