Shanghai handles higher container volumes in June

China’s Shanghai port has handled higher container volumes in June over the year-ago period, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Last month, the world’s busiest container port moved 3.14m teu of boxes, an increase of 2.2% from 3.08m teu recorded in the same month of 2015, SIPG data showed.

Box volumes moved last month also rose by 1.8% compared to 3.09m teu handled in May this year.

In the first half of 2016, Shanghai port registered a total throughput of 17.89m teu, a slight decrease of 0.7% from 18.02m teu posted in the previous corresponding period.
