US military says Houthi missiles failed to hit container ship Koi
US military say that two missiles fired by Houthi rebels at the container ship Koi on 1 February failed to reach their target.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sare'e had claimed earlier that it had “directly hit the vessel”.
US Central Command said that two anti-ship ballistic missile were launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen at around 12-45 pm local time on 1 February and were likely targeted at the 8,600 teu, Liberian-flagged Koi.
“The missiles impacted in the water without hitting the ship. There were no injuries and no damage reported to the M/V Koi or coalition ships in the area,” US Centcom said.
The Koi is owned by UK-based Oceonix Services, which also owned the tanker Marlin Luanda which was struck by a Houthi fired missile last weekend causing a fire onboard the vessel after one its cargo tanks filled with naphtha ignited.
