China’s logistics service provider, Zhonggu Logistics, is planning to put one boxship from seventeen newbuilds on the market each month starting from December to enlarge its container service capacity.

The company ordered 18 new containerships in 2021 from Chinese shipyards. The first of the vessels had been delivered in October this year, remaining the 17 boxships will be deployed into operation from progressively on a month-by-month basis. Owned fleet capacity of Zhonggu will be doubled when all the 18 vessels have been delivered.

Specialised in domestic market, Zhonggu Logistics has enlarged its service network to the international market and operates four-owned vessels servicing for Southeast Asia region.

“Signing of the RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) has brought lots of trading and transportation demands, offering new opportunities to container logistics industry. Based on our advantages in domestic market, we have opened up coastal services to provide a combined container logistics solution for inland and international trading market,” said Li Yonghua, general manager of Zhonggu Logistics.

The deployment of the newbuildings come at a time when global container shipping markets are coming under pressure after an unprecedented two-year boom.
