Bodies of two more seafarers recovered from Bourbon Rhode

The bodies of two more seafarers have been recovered from the anchor handler Bourbon Rhode which sank in the Atlantic.

The two bodies were recovered last night by the French Navy frigate Ventôse, and the search continues for eight more crew that are missing. The Bourbon Rhode had a crew of 14, three who one were rescued from a lifeboat, while the body of one other was recovered on Sunday.

"On behalf of all Bourbon employees, I would like to pay tribute to the deceased sailors. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones who are grieving over this dramatic event,” said Bourbon Corp ceo Gaël Bodénès.

The search for the eight missing seafarers has intensified with 10 commercial vessels involved since 26 September and overflights by French and US aircraft.

“Research operations are continuing on this sixth day and the mobilization of the maritime world is unprecedented. I would like to express our gratitude to all the research teams and those who volunteer,” Bodénès.

The Bourbon Rhode was in transit around 1,200 nm from Martinique and 60 nm from the category 4 hurricane Lorenzo on 26 September when it developed an ingress of water in the rear of the vessel.
