Body recovered from tugboat sunk in Suez Canal

The body has been found of a crew member missing from a tugboat that sank in the Suez Canal following a collision with a tanker.

The tugboat Fahd sank after it collided with the Hong Kong-flagged LPG carrier Chinagas Legend at the 51 km marking the canal, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) said in a statement n 5 August.

Six crew members were rescued from the tugboat which was flooded in the collision resulting in its sinking.

Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, said on 6 August that the salvage team had found the body in the sunken tugboat's accommodation cabin.

Adm. Rabiee has sent a message of condolences on behalf of all the workers of the SCA and its affiliated companies for the deceased crew member Chief Mechanic - El-Sayed Ali Mohamed Mousa.

As of Sunday five of the six crew from the tugboat who were rescued had been released from hospital.

Following the collision, the Chinagas Legend was anchored Port Said until incident related measures were completed. The SCA is compiling a detail report into the incident.
