Korean authorities report that Chinese general cargo vessel Cheng Lu 15 sank off Pohang, South Korea, taking eight of the vessel’s crew with it.

The 13,567dwt Panama-registered vessel went under late on Tuesday while waiting to enter Pohang harbour to unload its cargo.

According to China’s Xinhua, the crew consisted of 19 crew members, one of which was Vietnamese and 18 of which were Chinese nationals, including the captain, who was one of the eight dead.

So far, eight survivors have been rescued, with three still missing, according to a report by AFP.
