A session entitled "How can crews stay connected?" at the CMA Shipping 2016 conference found that poor connectivity can have serious negative effects on the recruitment of new crew members - what Borromeo called "the heart and soul” of shipping.

Borromeo said: “Attracting a new generation of seafarers and retaining them means we have to become more connected; allowing them to connect with family and friends back home. Without good Internet, we could lose some of the brightest, best seafarers we have ever seen.”
