Entries are open for the inaugural Mission to Seafarers trail running and hiking endurance race in the Swiss Alps, an event to raise funds for seafarer welfare.

Seafarer welfare charity The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) has announced the launch of its first-ever Maritime Mountain Race, an endurance event set to take place from 13-15 September, 2024.

Some 20 teams of three comprising trail hikers and runners from the maritime community will tackle the trails of the Swiss Alps from Le Bouveret, Switzerland, overlooking Lake Geneva. Teams will each be encouraged to raise a minimum of $5,000 with prizes awarded to teams with the highest fundraising total.

The charity is inviting entries at two levels of difficulty, hiking and running, for both seasoned athletes and those seeking a formidable yet achievable challenge. Team entries will close on Wednesday 31st July.

“Participants will journey through lush forests, along hidden paths, and across mountain rivers, experiencing panoramic views of the Alps and Lake Geneva,” said MtS.

Two evenings of networking will start with a welcome reception and culminate in a Gala Dinner. Participants will be hosted at the César Ritz Colleges Switzerland in Le Bouveret.

Jan Webber, Director of Development at The Mission to Seafarers, said: “The Maritime Mountain Race provides the shipping industry with an adrenaline-fuelled opportunity to celebrate the power of teamwork, adventure, perseverance, and a shared commitment to seafarers’ welfare. As well as the challenge of two days on the Alpine trails overlooking Lake Geneva, participants will also have the opportunity to network, connect, and forge lasting bonds with industry colleagues over two evenings.”

Sponsorship opportunities are available to businesses and individuals looking for branding and networking opportunities, joining Gold sponsors Cargill Ocean Transportation and polo shirt sponsor Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW).
