Webinar: Crew Welfare and the Skills Challenge

June 18, 2020

Date: Jun 25, 2020

Over 1.6 million seafarers keep the world’s merchant fleet at sea, delivering fuel, vital medicines, food, and equipment globally. However, closed borders and quarantine restrictions due to the current Covid-19 pandemic are hampering crew changes, creating a potential seafarer welfare crisis which threatens to interrupt world trade.

Despite repeated efforts from industry bodies, unions and regulators to get seafarers declared as key workers globally only a few ports have so far opened up to crew change, and even then owners and managers are finding they have to charter flights to get seafarers home.

What role can technology take in easing this deadlock and thereby safeguarding the future wellbeing of the crew? This webinar will focus on the human element and how we can interact with and exploit these new technologies to help the industry work safer and smarter.
