A Bangladeshi bulker, Banglar Samriddih, has been hit by a missile while at anchor in the Ukrainian port of Olvia.

The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority reported that the 38,894 dwt, Banglar Samriddih, at anchor in the Olvia port had been struck by a Russian Navy rocket at 17-25hrs, local time, on 2 March.

The port authority said in a Facebook post two tugs were sent to rescue the crew and preliminary reports indicated none of the 29 crew members had been injured. The vessels arrive in the port on 23 February and had been waiting to load.

A video posted on Twitter showed what was reported the vessel following the missile strike with flames in the area of the bridge and accommodation block and smoke billowing from the vessel.

The 2018 built vessel is owned and managed by Bangladesh Shipping Corp.

According to security analysts Dryad Global it is the fourth commercial vessel to be struck by missiles since the Russian invasion of the Ukraine, including the Yasa Jupiter on 24 February, and Namura Queen and Millennial Spirit on 25 February.

Two Ukrainian-flagged bulkers – Afina and Princess Nicole – were seized by the Russian Navy at the weekend.
