The Green Dolphin 575 is the second in the series following on from the Green Dolphin 38 introduced in June 2012.
“We have found significant improvement compared to the old design,” said Michael Aasland, DNV GL business director bulk carriers. He said the bulker had a “very low” fuel consumption of 22.8 tonnes per day. The vessel also fulfills the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) phase two requirements.
The ship is equipped to run on high sulphur fuel oil, but is also prepared for low sulphur fuel oil and LNG.
So far owners have ordered 80 Green Dolphin 38 designed vessels. According to an official from SDARI 44 are firm orders and the remainder are options and the vessels are being built at 10 Chinese yards.
“With the rise in ship prices we expect these options will eventually be exercised,” he said.
