MOL launches new car carrier services from Mexico

MOL is to initiate new east and west-coast car carrier services between Mexico and ports within the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

The connection will serve the emergent car manufacturing industry in Mexico, which MOL claims is predicted to increase by more than 10% every year. “Around 3m vehicles were produced in Mexico in 2013, about 80% of which were exported,” read a company statement. “MOL assumes exports of automobiles will continue to expand.”

On the Atlantic side, three vessels – 46,346 gt Cosmos Ace, 47,519 gt Harmony Ace and 37,949 gt World Spirit – will leave weekly from Veracruz in Mexico, calling at Jacksonville, Brunswick, Baltimore, Newark and Davisville before returning to Mexico. Meanwhile, leaving from Mexico’s west coast port of Lazaro Cardenas, as-yet-undisclosed car carriers will call at San Diego, Richmond, Portland, Tacoma and Canada’s port of New Westminster.
