Port may take pilot from Hoegh Osaka due to poor weather

The vessel remains at anchor and salvors managed to pump water off the ship for one to two hours yesterday, but weather is forecast to be "very poor" this week according to the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) with the worst peaking Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

3,000 tonnes of water need to be pumped from the ship, a task that was expected to take five to seven days.

A pilot from the Port of Southampton is currently at the scene, but the port is considering removing them as it may prove more difficult to do so at the end of their shift should the weather worsen.

Yesterday a tug holding the Osaka in position in high winds crashed into the ship, damaging the tug and leading to its replacement. Heavy weather has caused the car carrier to drag its anchor on Saturday morning, according to MCA.
