Scorpio Bulkers has chartered-in five dry bulk vessels for between five and thirteen months potentially giving the aggressive new kid on the block its first earnings.

The vessels are the first in the company's fleet, ahead of the delivery from the second quarter of 2014 of Scorpio Bulker's orderbook of 74 newbuilds, worth around $2.7bn.

A 2009-built panamax vessel has already been delivered to the company on a five to seven month charter at $15,900 per day, while the other four vessels are expected to be delivered in this month and March.

A pair of 2012-built kamsarmaxes have been booked for 12-14 and 10-12 months for $15,000 and $14,500 per day respectively. A post-panamax bulker built in 2010 will join the fleet for eight to 10 months at $13,250 per day.

The last of the vessels to join the fleet in March will be a a 2014-built panamax at $16,000 per day for 12 to 13 months.
