Star Bulk Carriers has contracted Chinese yards Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) and Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (Nacks) for the construction of five fuel efficient dry bulk carriers worth a total of $214.9m.

Star Bulk will build two 208,000 dwt newcastlemax bulkers at SWS and deliveries are expected during the first half of 2016.

The New York-listed shipping firm will also construct two 61,000 ultramax bulkers and one 209,000 dwt newcastlemax at Nacks. Delivery for the ultramaxes is slated during the fourth quarter of 2015 and delivery for the newcastlemax is during the first quarter of 2016.
