Thoresen Shipping Singapore has acquired a seven-and-a-half-year old Japanese built supramax dry bulk vessel.
Thoresen Shipping, wholly-owned by Thoresen Thai Agencies Public Company, said that the purchase of Thor Magnhild was concluded at an “attractive market price”, and has expanded the fleet to an average size of 49,607 dwt.
The 56,000-dwt Thor Magnhild mark's the operator's twelfth supramax vessel and expands its fleet to 20 vessels.
“Thoresen Shipping's strategy revolves around creating maximum value for clients with specialised cargoes while also maintaining our industry-leading cost structure, which helps to facilitate profitability and in turn growth and expansion,” said Ian Claxton, managing director of Thoresen Shipping.
“The acquisition of Thor Magnhild gives us the opportunity to deliver on both of these metrics, as we come to market with yet another young, efficient and standardised vessel,” he continued.
Thor Magnhild, which was delivered to Thoresen Shipping on 19 February, will commence trade loading bulk coal on 23 February in Richards Bay, South Africa, to be discharged at Gulf of Aden.
The vessel is subsequently expected to be deployed for trade in the Atlantic routes.
