The shipowner has acquired a 38,730 dwt handysize bulker renamed Tomini Sirocco, and 38,635 dwt handysize, renamed Tomini Pampero. Both vessels were built in 2016 at Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding .
It’s a major year for vessel acquisitions by Tomini with buying 13 handysizes in total, which now comprise half its fleet of 26 bulkers. The company also has three kamsarmaxes and 10 ultramaxes.
Tomini CEO Numair Shaikh upbeat on the handysize sector it has expanded into. “We see a very positive supply side picture on the handies, with relatively few new builds on order, and an ageing profile of the existing fleet.
“This leads to greater recycling numbers due to incoming environmental regulations, meaning the fundamentals are very much in favour of a positive handysize segement.”
