ABB invests in advanced cable layer
Power and automation technology group ABB has ordered what it describes as the world’s most advanced cable-laying and subsea service vessel.

The new vessel will measure roughly 140 m x 30 m and will be constructed to ABB’s design at the Kleven shipyard in Norway, for expected delivery in 2017.

It will be equipped with the highest class of Dynamic Positoning (DP3) and also feature many of ABB’s own technologies, including. an Onboard DC Grid and power distribution solution, a complete ABB Integrated Automation System and three Azipod propulsion units.

The vessel will also employ roll-reduction tanks for greater comfort and precision, as well as advanced advisory software for motion monitoring, while subsea operations will be carried out using a ROV with cameras and sonar to avoid the need for divers.
