APM Izmir orders 13 ZPMC cranes for $400m terminal project

APM Izmir orders 13 ZPMC cranes for $400m terminal project
Manufacturing of the three ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, each with an outreach of 22 containers, as well as 10 electric Rubber Tyre Gantry (e-RTG) cranes is currently underway at ZPMC’s factory in Shanghai, China, and are slated for delivery in mid-2015.

When completed, the new $400m container terminal in Aliağa, Izmir will add 1.5m teu of “sorely needed” capacity in the region, and will be the largest in western Turkey.

The move will open Izmir up to 10,000teu container vessels for the first time, and represents “a complete change in Izmir’s role in the global logistics chain,” according to APM terminals Izmir md Mogens Larsen.

“The ordering of these cranes will ensure that APM Terminals Izmir can deliver efficient, reliable and safe operations for these new services, as well as for the larger inter-European trade in Izmir,” Larsen added.
