Boskalis awarded $69.2m contract for Stockholm Norvik Port
Royal Boskalis Westminster (Boskalis) has been awarded a contract by Ports of Stockholm to construct the quay wall for the new Stockholm Norvik Port in Sweden.

The contract value amounts to approximately $69.2m and the project will commence in the autumn of 2017 with completion slated for the spring of 2020, the company announced.

Stockholm Norvik Port, a new port for ro-ro trafic and containers, will be constructed in Norvikudden located 60 km south of Stockholm. The port will have seven berths for container ships and ro-ro ferries.

Boskalis will construct 1,100 m of quay wall according to the design of the Port of Stockholm. The depth of the quay wall will vary between 16.5 and 10.5 m. Part of the quay wall will be constructed by installing heavy precast concrete elements produced by Boskalis with the assistance of a large crane.

Between September 2016 and March 2017 Boskalis also executed land reclamation activities for the new Stockholm Norvik Port. For this purpose around 1m cu m was dredged using a large variety of dredging equipment.

“The Boskalis strategy is designed to benefit from the key macro-economic drivers that fuel global demand in our selected markets: global trade, increasing energy consumption, population growth and the challenges of changing climate conditions. This project is driven by the growth in global trade,” the company said.
