Boskalis plans Vanguard-beating heavy lift crown-taker
Royal Boskalis Westminster, owner of Dockwise, is considering developing a vessel to take the heavy lift crown from its own Dockwise Vanguard.

The longer, wider V-class ship would be capable of carrying the Dockwise Vanguard and will have an increased carrying capacity with a similar bowless design and asymmetric accommodation.

The current largest heavy marine transport vessel in the world, Vanguard has a carrying capacity of 117,000 t, a 270 m by 70 m deck and can carry oil rigs, FPSOs and even offers the possibility of offshore dry docking for such facilities. Dockwise Vanguard has also been contracted to remove the wreck of the Costa Concordia later this year.

"The Dockwise Vanguard has been well received in the market. Our decision to start this study is a reflection of this and we see many more exciting opportunities in the FPSO and FLNG markets," Peter Berdowski, ceo Boskalis commented.

The company has started a study into the technical and commercial feasibility of the vessel, taking into account developments within the offshore market.
