The secondhand 32,000-dwt vessels will join Clipper Group’s fleet over the next four months. Financial details of the vessels acquisition deal by Clipper Group were not disclosed, though Norden said earlier it sold the ships at a loss of $18m.
The four ships – Nord Hong Kong, Nord Houston, Nord London and Nord Vancouver – were all built in 2011 at China’s Jiangmen Nanyang Shipyard.
“We are extremely pleased to have had the opportunity to add four modern handysize vessels to our fleet and into our Logger Pool,” said Peter Norborg, group ceo of Clipper Group.
“The Logger Pool is the largest of our five pools, and is one example of success of our pool management business model, built on long-term partnerships and mutual commitment,” he said.
The Logger Pool currently consists of 31 vessels, of which eight are controlled by Clipper Group and 23 are third-party vessels.
Norden said the sale of the handysizes came as it looks to focus on the larger supramax and panamax sectors.
