The options are attached to a previous order of two 50,000 dwt MR tankers in March this year.
American financial institution Hudson Partners has signed a letter of intent over one of the vessels, hull S410, agreeing to take on the ship for $150,000 over the purchase price. DIS will supervise construction of the vessel and once delivered, the vessel will be commercially managed by DIS and operated through charters or pools managed by DIS or its affiliates.
The vessels will be of an IMO phase III compliant design, with the same significant fuel savings and emissions reductions as their sister ships.
"I'm thrilled to announce the exercise of options to build two additional MR vessels, confirming DIS's strategy to modernise its fleet through newbuildings with eco innovative design. We strongly believe these types of vessels are set to be the future of our industry and their estimated timing of delivery perfectly matches our positive market outlook on the medium/long term," commented DIS ceo Marco Fiori.
