Deep Sea Mooring wins Maersk Discoverer contract for Egypt prospect
Maersk Drilling has awarded a mooring services contract for the semi submersible rig Maersk Discoverer to Deep Sea Mooring (DSM).

DSM will design the complete mooring spread for the project, define operational procedures, mobilise and demobilise all equipment in both Norway and Egypt, pre-install anchors on site prior to rig arrival, and hook up the rig when it arrives in Egypt. The Bergen-based company will also provide all base operations and personnel for the mooring and hook-up work.

"This is the first time we've worked with Maersk Drilling and the first time we've undertaken operations in Egypt," commented Ã…ge Straume, ceo of DSM. "So, it's a very significant contract for us and allows us to demonstrate how our extensive experience of installing mooring systems in the harsh environment of the North Sea can be transferred to new territories."

"This is a complex assignment, with water depths of 930m entailing high loads and a need to design a robust, high-quality and streamlined mooring solution. It's exciting to be given the opportunity to showcase our expertise with a new client of A.P Moeller-Maersk's standing."

Once operational, Maersk Discoverer, will be capable of drilling to a depth of 10,000 m and will work on an Egyptian prospect for BP.
