DNV GL lays groundwork for Maritime Battery Forum
Classification society DNV GL is laying the groundwork for a Maritime Battery Forum to develop electric and hybrid powered vessels.

DNV GL is currently running a pilot project that is preparing to establish the forum in Norway.

A meeting of 80 charterers, owners, shipyards and vendors was held in Norway on 4 March to assess those interested to become members. The meeting was DNV GL executive vice president and coo Remi Eriksen, who told Seatrade Global last week that he believes battery power will have a major part to play in powering shortsea shipping in the future.

“El - ships and hybrid vessels can become a pillar of Norwegian environmental policy, similar to electric vehicles, and which also provides important industrial policy results,” DNV GL said in a statement.
