DP World in UK management restructure after Southampton buyout
Following the group’s buyout of Southampton Port, DP World has introduced a new consolidated management structure for its UK operations, headed up by Chris Lewis, currently md of DP World Southampton.

The group purchased the remaining 49% stake in the Port of Southampton from Associated British Ports (ABP) late last year.

Lewis, will take the helm as UK md reporting into DP World’s European Head Office based in London. Meanwhile, succeeding Lewis, current finance director Nick Loader will be appointed ceo of DP World Southampton. All changes will take effect from April.

In another move London Gateway ceo Simon Moore has been appointed DP World’s senior vp, Commercial and Strategy, based in DP World’s Head Office in Dubai. He will be succeeded by Cameron Thorpe, Port gm at London Gateway since February 2015.

The top-down integration of operations at both London Gateway and Southampton ports will enable the transfer of empty containers, or the relocating of port calls in the event of adverse weather. “In London we owned 100%, but in Southampton we only had 51%, and we had two ports competing with each other,” a Dubai spokesman recently told Seatrade Maritime News. “When you consolidate, you can market two products as one.”

Ganesh Raj, svp and md Europe & Russia said, “This new UK management structure will allow an ever increased focus on our customer service and enable these two world-class businesses to excel further. Both businesses have fantastic teams and much can be learnt from each other which is good for staff, good for our operations and good for our UK customers.”
