Fjord Line christens award-winner Stavangerfjord

Fjord Line christens award-winner Stavangerfjord
Norwegian shipowner and ferry operator Fjord Lines yesterday christened its new passenger ferry Stavangerfjord, which earlier in the week won the prestigious Energy Efficiency (formerly Clean Shipping) award at Nor-Shipping.

Stavangerfjord and sister vessel Bergenfjord, built at Bergen Fosen shipyard, will be the first international service passenger ferries in the world to run on pure LNG engines. Rolls-Royce Marine is supplying the four Bergen gas engines for each vessel, which will power energy efficient Promas integrated rudder and propeller propulsion systems, also supplied by R-R, in dual screw configuration.

Separately, Promas Lite - a retrofit version of the integrated rudder and propeller system, which by itself R-R claims can offer 4-6% fuel savings – was selected by Aida Cruises for one of its vessels this week.
