GAC Russia has been appointed by Yamal LNG to manage 400 port calls a year for icebreaking LNG carriers.

Of the 400 calls annually, some 200 will be at the port of Sabetta in the Far North Russia, which serves the Yamal LNG facility, while the other 200 will be at international ports.

The work for Yamal LNG will encompass a wide range of operations including permits to operate in Russian waters and sourcing boarding engineers and scientists for the trials, to route coordination with the Russian Coast Guard Service and advice on Arctic navigation.

GAC Russia gm Tatyana Shorokhova, said: “Our work with Yamal LNG is testament to the array of support GAC can provide in addition to standard services such as Customs formalities, crew transfers, provision of bunker fuels and delivery of ship spares, machine parts and supplies.”

Over the next two years 15 ice-breaking LNG carriers will be commissioned to serve the project.

The ability of GAC Russia to service the contract will be subject to prevailing sanctions.
