Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk boxships collide in the Suez Canal
There are delays in the Suez Canal after Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk Line containerships collided on Monday.

The German-flagged Colombo Express collided with the Singapore-flagged Maersk Tanjong at 0715hrs on Monday. According to Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS): “The incident occurred when the Maersk Tanjong was clearing the Suez Canal Container terminal to join the second convoy, whilst the Colombo Express was already proceeding through the convoy at the same point.”

The Colombo Express lost three containers overboard and suffered a 20 m dent to its port side. A video of the Colombo apparently trying to overtake the Maersk Tanjong is available here

The accident “severely interrupted” a second southbound convoy and northbound convoy was also expected to be delayed.
