IMO rationalises sub-committees

IMO rationalises sub-committees
The IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) has agreed to a restructuring of IMO’s sub-committees, reducing the number from nine to seven.

The restructured bodies will be named according to the specific technical issues they deal with, and include the Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW); the Sub-Committee on Implementation of IMO Instruments (III); the Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue (NCSR); the Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR); the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC); the Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE); and the Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC).

The restructuring proposals, approved by the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) at its 65th session, will now go to the IMO Council (110th session, 15 to 19 July 2013) and to the IMO Assembly (24 November to 4 December 2013) for endorsement.
