Intellian launches convertible satellite dish
Intellian has unveiled its latest product, the v100GX 3-Axis Ku-Band VSAT convertible antenna, at the Norshipping exhibition in Oslo.

The design, with a dish constructed of precision-engineered carbon-fibre, will be able to take advantage of both the existing Ku-Band broadband service, as well as the upcoming Global Xpress Ka-Band broadband service from Inmarsat, to be initiated when the company’s I-5 satellites are launched and operational in 2014.

With alterations entailing the unfastening of a few bolts and the changing of an RF section mounted on a single modular chassis, Intellian claims the conversion procedure can be undertaken “through the hatch” by a single engineer, with a view to decreasing downtime.

Along with the new antenna, Intellian has announced the release of a co-axial-to-fibre-optic converter, with a range “tested up to 2,000 m”. The narrower fibre-optic cable is lighter and enables data transfer over far greater distances.
