The incoming chairman has been a member of the Intertanko Council since 1996 and vice chairman since 2012. He paid tribute to his processor, saying: “Nikos has been a charismatic, inspirational leader during what was a very turbulent and difficult time for our industry.
“I am honoured to take over the helm at a time when the Association’s role in today’s challenging environment is more prominent than ever,” he continued. “Commercial sustainability of the tanker industry will remain high on our agenda, as will a continued push for operational excellence and environmental protection.”
The Association will also continue to advance the interests of its members “in the various legislatorial arenas, not least as we move towards the next big-ticket item in the shape of the 2020 Sulphur Cap,” d’Amico added, as well as to “push to raise awareness of the importance of tanker shipping to the global economy.”
Intertanko md Kathi Stanzel expressed her personal thanks to Dr Tsakos for his time and guidance, as well as to his team at TEN (Tsakos Energy Navigation), for their “engagement and attention to detail, adding that she looked forward to working with his successor, who had always been “a great and steady supporter of the Association.”
