Jeppesen and Navarino ink digital partnership

Jeppesen and Navarino ink digital partnership
Digital navigation and operations specialist Jeppesen (Stand 1.105) and maritime satellite communications provider Navarino (Stand 4.301) have entered into a partnership agreement to allow digital chart data delivery via satellite.

The partnership “will help ship operators comply with the ECDIS mandate, which requires some 35,000 vessels to be equipped with up-to-date ENCs by 2018,” said John Klippen, md of Jeppesen Norway/Commercial Marine.

Navarino’s Infinity platform “will accelerate chart delivery and updating, effectively displacing cumbersome processes involving USB sticks and DVDs,” addsproject manager Nikolaos Papanikolaou, as an integrated service making use of the new generation of Inmarsat satellites.

The new partnership is described as just the first step in leveraging ship-to-shore connectivity by the two companies, in order to take full advantage of the digital opportunities presented by the advent of high throughput satellite technology, Big Data services, Maritime Cloud solutions and the Internet of Things at Sea.
