Lamprell's scope of works includes procurement, fabrication and supply of 60 foundations (comprising jackets and piles) to ScottishPower Renewables who will then install the structures, atop which wind turbine generators will eventually be fitted.
Work at Lamprell's Jebel Ali (Dubai) and Hamriyah (Sharjah) yards will begin in March 2017 with deliveries scheduled between March and October 2018.
The significant contract award comes after outgoing ceo Jim Moffat urged Lamprell to diversify away from its rig building DNA after announcing a $4.4m H1 loss in September.
Moffat’s replacement, Christopher McDonald, had the pleasure of announcing the new business which will undoubtedly help Lamprell ride out the current offshore market storm.
"This is a significant award for Lamprell and represents a big step forward in servicing the fast growing renewables segment,” said McDonald who took the helm on 1 October.
“This project gives us an opportunity to demonstrate how our fabrication skills are once again transferrable to other areas of the energy industry and beyond our traditional sweet spot in the oil & gas sector."

East Anglia ONE will be one of the world’s largest offshore wind farms by the time it is commissioned in 2020, with installed capacity of 714 megawatts (MW), enough to supply clean energy to more than 500,000 average English households.
Located in the UK waters of the southern North Sea, the largescale project will ultimately utilise 102 turbines, each with a capacity of seven MW.
Lamprell's contract will also create jobs in the UK with Belfast firm Harland & Wolff to perform jacket assembly works for Lamprell, prior to final delivery to ScottishPower Renewables.
