Sanmar hits 100 tug milestone

Sanmar hits 100 tug milestone
Turkish shipyard Sanmar has completed its 100th tugboat and has released a progress update on the world's first LNG powered harbour towage unit, also being built at the facility.

The 100th tug, Bogacay 1, boasts a pair of 1765kW Caterpillar type 3512C main diesel engines, turning Rolls-Royce US 205FP Z-drives, giving a bollard pull over 60 tonnes and a free-running speed of 12 knots. The vessel is due to be renamed Zeycan Y when it begins operations in Gemport, Turkey.

Along with its century announcement, Sanmar issued an update on progress of the world's first LNG tug, one of a pair being built by the yard ready for long term charters with Statoil and Gassco.

The Bukser og Berging owned and designed tugs incorporate an LNG propulsion system designed by AGA Cryo and Rolls-Royce. The first vessel already has its LNG tanks and engines fitted, with steel construction almost complete. Construction on its sister vessel has just got underway.

Complient with IMO tier III regulations, the 65 bollard pull vessels are fitted with full gas redundancy, with no diesel back up and will cut particle emissions by 98%, Sox emissions by 98-100%, Nox by 92% and CO2 by 17%.
