Scotland studies ferry options to ease Forth Bridge closure commuter woes
Transport for Scotland is mulling using ferries to replace the Forth Road Bridge, which was closed after authorities discovered a large crack in one of its supports.

“All options are actively being considered," spokesman for the Department Ryan Gilbert told Seatrade Maritime News. "We are in discussions with ferry operators and will consider this in the context of the operation of the Travel Plan, which we will continue to adjust as necessary.

"Practicality, in terms of available infrastructure and comparable journey times, will be a factor in these considerations.”

Local reports indicate Scottish ferry operator Calmac is looking at the possibility of transferring its passenger ferry Argyll Flyer from the west coast of the country to operate between North and South Queensferry.

Closure of the bridge, which is expected to continue until the new year, is causing chaos for commuters, with an estimated 70,000 vehicles a day travelling between Edinburgh and Fife having to be diverted.
