SEA\LNG is seeking to further encourage the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel ahead of the IMO’s global 0.5% sulphur cap for marine fuels in 2020. The widescale adoption of LNG as a bunker fuel has faced a chicken and egg situation of shipowners waiting for supply infrastructure and bunker suppliers waiting for demand before investing in infrastructure.
“A key barrier has been a general lack of understanding of current and forthcoming LNG bunkering infrastructure. What we sought to achieve with the Bunker Navigator Tool is a quick, easy-to-access platform that includes relevant, up-to-date, and free-to-access information on LNG infrastructure and bunker development,” said Peter Keller, SEA\LNG chairman and evp of Tote.
According to the organisation LNG is already available in bulk in 150 locations worldwide and nine of the 10 top bunkering either offer, or will offer by 2020, LNG bunkering.
