Van Oord wins dredging contract for Dubai iconic waterfront project

Van Oord wins dredging contract for Dubai iconic waterfront project
Netherland-based Van Oord dredging company has been awarded the contract for Dubai Harbour marine works, a prestigious mega project in Dubai.

The project for Projects Link Contracting Co is the next step in achieving “Dubai Tourism Vision 2020”, Dubai’s strategy to attract 20m visitors per year by 2020. It is a strategy to which Van Oord has contributed since 2001 by building amongst others Palm Jumeirah, The World and many other artificial islands.

“Our responsibilities will include dredging the 12-kilometre navigation channel, reclaiming land and executing vibro-compaction. We will be deploying a large trailing suction hopper dredger, and one of our high tech self-propelled cutter suction dredgers. We are looking forward to contributing to yet another Dubai landmark,” said Jan Willem Elleswijk, Van Oord’s Area Manager.

Dubai Harbour is set to span 185 hectares, and will include berths for 1,400 boats and a cruise terminal. Execution will take place from September 2017 to May 2019.
