The five-year agreements each cover condition based maintenance for a total of 80 Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines, which can run on LNG, light fuel oil and heavy fuel oil.
Under condition based monitoring, maintenance of the units can be based on the actual state of the individual engine as monitored by internal sensors. Evaluation of data from the engine at Wärtsilä's condition based monitoring centre also allows for early detection of performance issues, therefore optimising performance and reducing downtime.
Such agreements are a significant part of Wärtsilä's business, with the company's services department accounting for 43% of sales in 2013.
TMS Cardiff Gas and Thenamaris LNG also opted for Online Remote Support, allowing Wärtsilä's experts to offer real time support to the ships' crews via the internet, without an engineer physically attending the vessel.
"We expect that this agreement with Wärtsilä will lead to higher availability, increased efficiency, reduced maintenance cost, and reduced risk for the DF Engines installed on Maran Gas Fleet. Wärtsilä's technology, global presence and local support are essential elements for supporting this agreement," said Andreas Spertos, technical director at Maran Gas Maritime.
