ABB Turbochargers launches new A200-L
ABB Turbocharging, at Posidonia 2014 stand 2.211, is demonstrating its range of two-stroke and four-stroke turbocharging equipment, including its newest 2-stroke A200-L turbocharger.

The A200-L targets the low-speed wto-stroke market, including tankers, bulkers and container ships. The improved design of the compressor wheel enables the device to attain up to 30% greater volume flow, higher pressure ratios and higher overall efficiency than ABB’s former offering. However, the A200-L is considerably more compact than its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the company has also launched the second generation of ABB’s four-stroke two-stage turbocharger Power2, which will be on the stand – Power2 boasts a strong lineage, with its predecessor having seen over 120 installations throughout the shipping industry. However, the new system is capable of pressure ratios up to 12, compared with its predecessor’s eight, while still maintaining efficiency of 75% and above.
ABB’s Valve Control Management (VCM) alters the valve timings on four stroke engines using an electro-hydraulic, cam-supported variable valve train system, providing the precise amount of air the engine requires at any load. Using VCM, a turbocharged engine can go from idling to full load in up to half the time.
As well as the turbochargers themselves, ABB offers engine optimisation services, such as High Pressure Tuning (HPT), which can help increase the efficiency of the company’s turbochargers further, while providing additional savings in fuel consumption and emissions.
