AkzoNobel’s practical experiences of applying ISO 19030 to vessel performance datasets provided by Chevron Shipping, highlights benefits and limitations of noon report datasets and illustrates some of the challenges that are encountered when applying the ISO 19030 standard using data that does not meet the strict data-quality requirements of the standard.

Consequently, data- analysts must use their judgement, make assumptions and apply ad hoc modifications to the methods prescribed by ISO 19030 in order to interpret these datasets and extract useful and meaningful vessel performance data to support decision making. Based on detailed discussions of practical adjustments to analysis method and the uncertainties in the results, it points out the need for sufficient data quality and quantity. The findings are valuable information and provide useful starting points for future improvements of ISO 19030.
